Pocket-sized Wireless Network Tester

Speedtest Pulse from Ookla / Ekahau is a quick and easy tool for testing WiFi performance. Great for verifying a new deployment or troubleshooting issues in a particular location.

This small but mighty device has two custom designed omnidirectional antennas supporting up to Wi-Fi 7 on 2.4, 5 & 6GHz and Bluetooth 5.4.

Start with wired connectivity

Best practice is to verify the wired performance first, by plugging an ethernet cable in to the 1G port. The screen displays the available upload/download speeds. Now you have a baseline of what’s possible you can move on to test the wireless.

The WiFi performance

With the touch of a button, Speedtest Pulse runs a series of wireless throughput and RF tests. The scores are displayed very simply using coloured indicator lights on your smart phone. You can then drill down into the many KPIs being measured if you want to see all the detail:

• Broadband & WAN
• Configuration & Security
• RF Environment
• Client Devices

When a score isn’t optimal, just click in to read the built in recommendations. Very handy if you aren’t a wireless expert.

Save the tests with the name of the room/location, and the results can be downloaded into a report. Handy for comparison if issues are reported in the future, or to show your customer to verify an install.

Walk to the next room/location and run the tests again.

There are two elements to the Speedtest Pulse; the hardware itself and the app (available for both iOS and Android).
