Crannog Product Selector – Quick Product Guide
Benefit – The solution tells you how the bandwidth in your network is being used, top users and protocols, hence where is the cost of the network going.
How does it work? – It uses the Layer 3 devices in your network to send back details of the traffic passing through each interface. This is called NetFlow for Cisco or S Flow for other vendors. The solution works for both.
How does it differ from other solutions? – Most centralized solutions use SNMP technology which cannot give you the user and protocol information. The only other way to get this level of information is to use probes on each port which can quickly get expensive.
What are the overheads on the network? - Once a minute a table of information is sent back to a central server which forms the reports. The size of the table varies depending on the number of interfaces you are getting data from but it is in the region of 1-200Kbs.
Benefit – The solution monitors the networks ability to move requests from point to point giving you a measure of service availability and quality.
How does it work? – The technology uses Cisco Routers to send messages between each other, measuring how long they take and how many get through. This allows alarms to be raised if the service is not working, but also if the service gets too small.
How does this differ from other solutions? – Most solutions of this type require separate probes to perform these actions. Response Watch uses existing Cisco technology in the Routers. This makes it easy to roll out and keeps costs down.
Any downsides? – This only works with Cisco Hardware.
Benefit – NetWhere is designed to help you use your installed base of used and spare switch ports more efficiently and provide an audit trail of where PCs have been connected and which IP addresses they have had?
How does it work? – The solution creates a database of MAC address, IP address and switch port mapping for every switch you have installed. This allows you to create an audit trail of where PCs have been plugged in, which IP addresses have been assigned to them and how many switch ports are free.
How does this differ from other solutions? – Most solutions available will give a “real time” view of the network switches and IP configurations. NetWhere keeps all this information all the time so you have an audit trail and you are always up to date.
Any downsides? – The switches need to support SNMP for this solution to work.
Benefit – OneView offers a single page to view all your different Crannog solutions in one place.
How does it work? - All the Crannog solutions offer web interfaces. OneView allows pages from different solutions to be integrated into one page(s) allowing you to build the views you wish to see. This solution can integrate pages from third party solutions that support web reporting.
How does this differ from other solutions? – OneView is free on the purchase of any Crannog product.
Benefit – This is a solution designed to show you a map of the critical network paths and give a quick overview of state of the network.
How does it work? – NetWatch monitors the availability and utilisation of the key network components and using SNMP technology and displays the information as a series of colours on a single map.
How does this differ from other solutions? – NetWatch is fully configured to work as soon as it is installed. All you need to do is add the IP addresses of the devices you want to monitor and the SNMP requests and default alarms are ready to go.
Any downsides? – The devices need to support SNMP for this solution to work.
