National Library of Scotland

Having previously performed a detailed audit of the National Library of Scotland’s network, Full Control Networks were asked to assist in the sourcing of a company to install a major upgrade of their network. The network is based over three sites with approximately 400 users.

Full Control Networks were asked to produce a Tender Document which would clearly and completely cover all aspects of the National Library of Scotland’s requirements. This not only included the technical needs of the network itself and the recommendations for specific solutions, but also involved defining the types of company that would be suitable to work as a partner with the Library.

Having written the Tender Document, and arranged its release, Full Control Networks then project managed the responses, providing the Library with a short list of appropriate suppliers to work from. These were those which most completely matched the requirements of the Tender Document, and only included companies which Full Control Networks were confident would be able to complete the work successfully.

Throughout the project, Full Control Networks’ interest was to obtain the best services for the National Library of Scotland at the most effective price. Outsourcing the writing of the Tender meant that the Library was able to continue to focus on running its network without being distracted from the usual day to day management and maintenance demands. It also ensured that the network requirements and planned upgrades were critiqued by another network professional, so that no areas of potential improvement were missed.
